The Enlightenment Arrives in Pittsburgh

at Carnegie Mellon . . . but too late to help the Turkish community and the West Penn Cultural Center, or the IB students and families in Upper St. Clair.

I work at CMU and I have to say I found that whole "controversy" to be a complete and utter non-issue and proof that some faculty have way too much time on their hands.

I have to say, though, that Upper St. Clair and South Park are pretty much handing Mayor Murphy an opportunity to begin an ad campaign to lure open-minded suburbanites back to the city and away from these ridiculous de facto gated communities.

Pittsburgh has a High School with an I.B. program -- and it florishes. But, it is at Schenley High School -- a school that was to move out of Oakland and into the east end -- where a failing middle school is closing (Reizenstein). So, Schenley was on the "moving block" -- not "chopping" -- sorta.

That move is in the air. So, getting anyone to move to the city when there are so many changes that are taking and yet to take place isn't going to happen.
