I have to be happy that Google is opening a small research outpost in Pittsburgh, even if it likely means nothing tangible in terms of expanding the region's economy. Google is coming here because the people it wants to hire are already here -- and they wouldn't leave. And that's a nice boost for the CS reps of Carnegie Mellon (not that CMU needed it) and Pitt (which doesn't get the play it deserves).Actually, that's pretty good news, too.
And, well, despite the fact that Google may be turning into the Microsoft of the 21st century, Google is still cool.

Great to get Google in Pittsburgh.
I was in Evanston, Il, last month and Google was there too -- recruiting. I had a 40 minute chat with the Google head hunter / organizer. They were there talking to Northwestern grads.
She was in HR and these folks were shooting for 'marketing jobs.' So, they don't even come to Pittsburgh for those interviews. Wharton, yes.
And, Google does not size up the same as M$ in terms of culture, IMHO.
Final thought -- how about "The Google Marathon" -- a rebirth of the Pittsburgh Marathon, sponsored by Google! Let's make it so.
where'd you get the Google Pittsburgh logo? If you actually went into photoshop and put some texture and drop shadows on "Pittsburgh" in Catull font (used by Google), bravo.
