True Geekery: A Native Son Returns

Here's an item for folks who, like me, are caught up in the public policy implication of information technology:

My friend and colleague Jonathan Zittrain, a Pittsburgh native who currently teaches law at Oxford and Harvard, will be in town later this month to give a lunchtime talk based on his new book, "The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It."

I've heard the presentation before and can assure the skeptical: there is something here for everyone, from the most sophisticated geek (JZ has a computer science degree from Yale and was a sysop before he went to law school) to the most naive newbie. And Jonathan will have you laughing and scowling. This is a right brain and left brain event.

Time, place, etc.: Thursday, June 19, 2008 noon, at the Allegheny HYP Club in downtown Pittsburgh (619 William Penn Place, just down the street from the William Penn Hotel). $20 for HYP members and students; $25 for non-members, lunch included. RSVPs required (space is limited) to 412-281-5858 or bkurcina@alleghenyhypclub.com.

Jonathan will be signing copies of the book afterward.

See you there.

Mike,

Can't make the speach, though I'd like to (will be in NYC). The book and premise looks interesting though, do you know if the book is at the level a layperson could get something out of it?

Burgher J,

Yes. Absolutely.

One starts...well, it is past starting, when he realizes that he attended law school with Jonathan Zittrain's mother and clerked for Jessica and Harry Litman's parents. Those children who observed class or came into the office to use the early personal computer (albeit not yet an IBM PC) are today's name attorneys!
