Venture Capital Deals

Take a look at this running summary of recent venture capital deals around the country. Pittsburgh, I think, falls into the Great Lakes region, and Pittsburgh companies are listed as part of the PA list. It looks to me like Western PA makes a poor showing by national standards. If someone wants to look at the data more carefully, I'd be happy to be proved wrong on this.

Checking the data fairly quickly shows that Pittsburgh has 6 deals --
Precision Therapeutics, Renal Solutions, Akustica, TimeSys, Cellumen and Neuro Kinetics among the 86 deals in the Great Lakes region (a good number of which are Canadian) since January 2005.
These deals total about $57-58M.
Street buzz has term sheets out to at least 3 local companies now. So we can hope that we are seeing a thaw in the VC nuclear winter in Pittsburgh.
