Invited to the Inauguration?

The big party is today. Are you going? Neither am I.

The truth is that Tom Murphy just wore us out. He was a very earnest guy who long ago lost whatever ability he had to inspire and lead. Sort of the Jimmy Carter of Pittsburgh.

Is Bob O'Connor likely to do any better?

Boob O'Connor embodies all that is wrong with Pittsburgh politics. His justification for being elected mayor was that he's been around so long it's his turn. His post-election "thank you" campaign is disgusting, as if the voters were doing him a personal favor by electing him as mayor, rather than hiring him to do a job that we may, in due course, thank him for having done well. But of course he won't do well. He'll be a tool of business interests, much more so than Murphy ever was, and the city will continue to go down the drain while Boob basks in his tanning bed and goes golfing with his cronies.

I would prefer “a tool for business interests” to a mayor who owes so much to the political and union machines who are interested in maintaining the status quo.

I was at the inauguration. Wore my "Bob" button, special made for the event. Nice affair, although they only filled about 2/3s of the chairs set up on Grant Street. Altough somebody said the throng in the impromptu food court was worse than the Cookie Cruise. Got my picture took with the new hizzoner in his new office. Bob has three Post-Gazette stories about him framed on his wall, zero from the Trib. Touting a non-union paper might not look so good. Also, various framed photos of him with Bradshaw, Big Ben, Lou Pappan, Michael Keaton, Michael Jordan, and a politico or two. He's still got Murphy's old furniture. While waiting in line for about 20 minutes to get into the office I talked with two Pollocks from Polish Hill. We all agreed that it's a shame Pittsburgh never had a Polish mayor. Still, they were serving perogies and kielbasa in the City-County lobby.

Look, politics is all about the people. Bob throws a party for the people. Good politics. Different from Murphy. Maybe better, maybe worse. Let's give him a chance.

Isn't it a GOOD thing that "Boob" is a friend of business? Lord almighty, if there's anything Pittsburgh needs more of, it's jobs! And by jobs I don't mean service jobs -- aka opening 10 more 'mill' malls.

Which brings me to my next debate question:

With Pittburgh's population declining, how many more malls can the city sustain?

While I agree we need jobs that pay more hten 6$ an hour to help the city I feel as if you statements are slightly inaccurate. While the city of Pittsburgh may be loosing in population the same can not be said for the outlying areas of the city. With the growth in the outlying areas of the city like Washington and Butler County it will only help to grow and sustain the malls located in the suburbs. Hell look at the new Pittsburgh Mills Mall!

Seriously though Pittsburgh Mills even attracted an HM -- we have New York City in our own back yard!

It honeymoon time in Pittsburgh. I'll take note of your question and get back to you.

Because we have Bob O'Connor as our mayor -- we need real movers and shakers in City Council with deep thoughts -- like of the constitution. I'm not talking about HYPER kiss butts either who do a lot of over reaching. We need to send a message -- "Lay the shovel down!"
