Pudge Heffelfinger Was Here

William "Pudge" Heffelfinger was the first ever to be paid, legitimately, to play a game of football. And it happened here in Pittsburgh, in 1892.

Hi Denise. I am a distant relative of William Walter "Pudge" Heffelfinger as well, I am sure you are related to William Walter "Pudge" Heffelfinger, as all the Heffelfingers' in the United States are linked. I am not sure how you or I for that matter are related to him but I sure am looking to find out. My Mother is a Heffelfinger as was her Father Bell Michael,,and his father Otis Bell, to Bell Michael, Philip,Philip,Martin,Martin'der Wissen Heffelfinger (1699) first to arrive her with his children, for which his wife Anna Gysin was lost at sea.

My surname is Ryan, but Pudge was my Great Great Uncle.

My grandmother was his niece Lucia. Lucia married my grandfather Dr. Thomas P. Ryan Sr. in Minneapolis and later she moved to California with my father TPR Jr (born 1/5/24 Minneapolis) in the 1930's.

Most of the members of my family bear eyebrows that seem to resemble the pictures of Pudge that I have seen over the years.

I'd be interested in hearing from other's who may knowlege of my Minneapolis links to Pudge (and his neices and nephews from the turn of the century )
